Ever have trouble falling asleep?
Quoted from http://www.nerdparadise.com/science/sleepytime/
Ever have trouble falling asleep? Wouldn't it be nice if there was a quick "trick" to put yourself to unconsciousness that doesn't involve over-the-counter drugs? Here are a few techniques that have helped me...
Don't eat within a few hours before going to sleep. Unless it's turkey or milk.
If it takes significantly longer to fall asleep than usual, then give up. Get up and do miscellaneous housework. Try again in 20 minutes.
Don't work in your bedroom during the day. This is especially difficult if you live in a small apartment or dorm, but go somewhere else. If you train your mind to focus in your bedroom, it's harder to fall asleep.
If your day consists mostly of sitting, then it will be harder to fall asleep. Incorporate some form of exercise into your day.
Take a warm shower.
Put your thumbs over your ear holes with your fingers crossed behind your head. Basically just bend the little flap at the front of the opening to your ear in so that your ears are completely sealed. This generates the seashell effect where you can really hear your pulse and your breathing amongst other things. After a few seconds, you'll hear a high pitched pseudo-sound in the back of your head. Focus on this sound for about 10 minutes. Then stop. Put your arms by your side and relax normally. This technique is called Quiet Ears.
